About Nation Preparation
Nation Preparation is an independent UK website that helps households get ready for the everyday emergencies this country actually has: power cuts, storms, floods, a burst water main, a winter breakdown. We are not connected with the UK Government, the Met Office, the Environment Agency or any power or water company.
Where our advice comes from
We start from primary sources and link to them: the UK Government’s Be Ready guidance, the Met Office, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, SEPA, the Food Standards Agency, the NHS, the Drinking Water Inspectorate, Ofgem and the electricity networks’ 105 service. Where we quote them, we quote them exactly. Where we add our own suggestions (what size to buy, what fails first in a flat), we say so.
How we check it
- Every figure on the site is checked against the source it cites before it goes live.
- Pages show the date they were last reviewed. We re-check all pages at least every six months, and storm pages whenever the Met Office updates its warnings.
- Our emails summarise official warnings. They are not warnings themselves: always follow the Met Office, the Environment Agency and the emergency services.
How we make money
Some product links may earn us a commission; those links are marked Ad. We also sell a practical household manual. Neither changes what the official guidance says, and we never present products as government-approved.
